COMING SOON! Project is in development and is still looking for investments / licensing of the game kit. We're so excited to share it with you.
Overview:
CARPE´ is a platform that combines Augmented Reality and Internet of Things allowing them to work in conjunction with each other. As parents, we see the effects massive amounts of screen time have on our children, yet we also know the benefits of being mobile. CARPE´ takes the best social aspects of mobile (AR) and combines it with the physical world (IoT) to create location based experiences that get people up, active, and playing together. CARPE is an acronym for Collaborative Augmented Reality Play Experience, and the goal of the project is to foster intergenerational conversation and community building within our homes. Building upon my article, Virtual Graffiti in the Read-Write City ... CARPE´ Games are a visual and auditory creative story for the community to collect, decode, collaborate and create their shared experience.

What problem are we trying to solve?
How can families play during a Pandemic? We can still create playable moments that aren't just watching Netflix or chatting on Zoom. Families want to be active during this time, and keep the kids entertained. With Millennials being highly social and living their lives in two worlds, online and off, our goal is to attract this population with meaningful game experiences that bridge both these worlds.
A report from SuperAwesome states that "kids digital services have increased by nearly 70% in the U.S." According to The American Academy of Pediatrics, "screen time may be affecting the normal development of fundamental learning, language, and emotional skills." From an Axios article, "several families tell us they're growing closer as they're forced to ride out the pandemic as a clan."
Research shows that intergenerational play supports language development, critical thinking, and emotional connections among families and communities. However, opportunities for people to come together for intergenerational play—experiences that are equally playful no matter your age—are often difficult to find and access.
The solution: NERF meets Nintendo. CARPE´ Games blend digital and physical play through augmented reality technology similar to what powered the hit game Pokemon Go! Using physical Foam Objects, Smart Disks, and an AR App, players can augment their playspace in any way they'd like, and future opportunities are expanded with AR technology and WiFi hubs — building an experience the whole family can enjoy.
CARPE´ Games will also increase access to open space and park activities through gameplay events designed for participants of all ages and abilities. As a team game, play is enhanced by including players with differing abilities and ideas. And, although the game has a technological component, it is not necessary for all team members to have a mobile device to participate.
Who will be impacted by the project?
Middle school aged children from 10 to 14 years old in 5th - 8th grade is our target participant, but surrounding these children are parents, educators, neighbors and local businesses. This will also impact arcades, at-home activites, and urban cities with generous park spaces and offer a story to shape playing in at home and outside with an eye towards the future.
